AACON General Contractors successfully completed a multi-phase restroom renovation for the Defense Finance and Accounting Service (DFAS) within Building 21 at the Defense Supply Center Columbus (DSCC). This project showcases AACON’s ability to deliver ADA/ABA-compliant renovations within secure, occupied federal facilities while maintaining operational continuity and superior quality.

As the prime contractor, AACON managed the renovation of two high-traffic restrooms located on the second and seventh floors of the multi-story DFAS building. Originally constructed as women’s restrooms, both were reclassified for men’s use, requiring fixture conversions, layout modifications, and accessibility upgrades. The work involved selective demolition, mechanical and plumbing modifications, fixture installation, and finish replacements, all carefully sequenced to minimize disruption to ongoing operations.

The project included converting water closets to urinals, installing new flush mechanisms and sensor-operated faucets, replacing partitions with solid phenolic compartments, and upgrading lavatory countertops with solid surface materials while reusing existing compliant bowls. Mirrors, grab bars, and recessed dispensers were retained and remounted where possible to maintain code compliance. Work sequencing was closely coordinated with facility staff to ensure that no more than two restrooms were offline at any time, and all shutdowns and utility isolations were scheduled after hours to avoid interference with daily activities.

AACON completed the project 18 days ahead of schedule and within budget, delivering all contract requirements with zero modifications. The team demonstrated proactive problem-solving by identifying hidden valves behind walls, coordinating night-shift water shutdowns, and adjusting the construction sequence to accommodate facility events. DFAS stakeholders commended AACON’s communication for its clarity, flexibility, and responsiveness.

This project reinforces AACON’s proven capability to execute phased renovations within occupied, mission-critical government environments, combining precision, efficiency, and client-focused coordination to achieve successful outcomes.
